Weekend Tidbits - Birthday in NYC
January 7, 2013 at 7:00AM | Filed in Travel, Weekend Tidbits Well, today is my birthday. Forty three; It's hard to believe I'm this old. It feels like yesterday that I turned thirty. I wouldn't give back a year for anything though and I so look forward to the next year of health and happiness. This past weekend was spent in Manhattan celebrating with family and friends.

I began my afternoon Friday at the Gramercy Park Hotel where I bellied up to the bar at Maialino for lunch. I've eaten here on a number of occasions and it was just as good as I remembered. I ordered the proscuitto and mozzarella to start and then had the bombollati all'Amatriciana. The bombollati, a half size ridged rigatoni, was perfectly toothsome and the sauce had the right amount of zip with lots of savory and smoky guanciale.

The first stop of the celebration was at the bar at the NoMad Hotel. You may remember I had a fabulous meal there last year (post here) and I was thrilled to return. The bar itself was bustling and jam packed but we were lucky enough to score a table in the cozy library room off the bar. Our waitress recommended a drink called the Petticoat which I liked so much I had two (we were celebrating my birthday after all). It consisted of Sichuan peppercorn infused gin, apricot liqueur, lemon and velvet falurnum. We then made our way to the lively Osteria Morini in SoHo for a decadent Italian dinner.

We ended the night with a gorgeous ricotta tart with oranges.
On another note, I've got my replacement camera so I'll be back to regular posting again.
