Your Opinion Needed!

I bought a couple of dresses from Net-A-Porter and I need a second opinion.

Here is the Halston Heritage draped dress as it appears on a model.

And here it is on me but with a different belt since I didn't like the one it came with.  What do you think?  I think if I play with the draping, maybe add a different belt and put on some Spanx, I might end up keeping it It's comfortable and great for summer as it's quite lightweight.

I had ogled this Diane von Furstenberg print back when the fall 2012 fashion shows were happening (see post here) so when I saw the DVF Veronica houndstooth dress on Net-A-Porter I had to have it.

And here is the DVF Veronica dress on me.  Here are my issues with it.  I think for my over 40 age, the skirt might be a wee short.  That can be remedied since there seems to be enough fabric in the hem that I can have it tailored to be a bit longer.  The material is a heavy twill so this is definitely a fall dress but if I want to wear it with tights, what color tights and shoes would I wear it with?

What say you my lovely readers and friends?

I love the DVF dress so much. It's very flattering on you and if you can lengthen it then I would totally keep it! The other dress does have a lovely drape but it's not a great colour. I'd be tempted to return that one.

Obsessed with the first one!!!!

I LOVE the Halston Heritage dress on you - it's such an elegant cut & that color suits you perfectly. I think the belt you paired it with is great, but you could do so many different things with accessories, a big gold cuff or clutch. Definitely a keeper.

The DVF isn't my favorite personally, but you rock it!!

I like both, but they aren't making me go WOW! I will say you look great (certainly do not look 40+) and the DVF compliments your youthful appearance and spirit!

That Grecian dress looks so beautiful on you! I love the color and the cut.

I love both dresses. You often wear a lot of bright colors which I like on you so dress #2 falls into this I'm not sure about the length I guess Id have to see it with the shoes. The neutral draped dress I like for you as well. I just think you need a narrower belt like you suggested. I think both dresses are very unique and beautiful and look forward to seeing how you will style them.

I don't think the DVF is too short for you. I like the second one the best. Suits your fun and bright personality. The first dress is lovely too and maybe try it with strappy heels.

I see where you are coming with your 40+ comment, but personally, I think that you look fantastic in shorter dresses/skirts. Shorter styles are very flattering on you. Face it, you've got great legs - so I vote for you to flaunt them!

You always look good in evvvverthing. I'd have to say I like dress #1 though. Love that rich color.
You're over 40?? Huh?? I thought you were maaaaaybe 30. Seriously. Okay...can I possibly become any more impressed with you? You're one of those people I look at and think "I want to be like her when I grow up"...even though I'm older than you. lol

Love the DVF, it will look good with flats and black tights. You can wear it now too. I don't think it is too short. The other is good too. I can see it on a warm night having dinner at a sidewalk cafe.

first thing i thought was... OMG she is not 40!?!?! i had no idea... you don't look it! also, its very clear in these pics that you are losing weight! wow, good for you!

you have a way of styling your clothes that i think both dresses will be great on you! i love the alternate belt that you chose for the first dress! and the second dress is a more youthful shape, but i think the houndstooth pattern adds some edge.

you look great! love your blog!

Hi Lissy,

I actually adore the DvF on you! I am picturing it with nubby black tights and black ankle boots for fall. And perhaps with an ivory or camel cape! The Halston I am less crazy about—not because of the shape at all, but rather because the color washes you out a tad. But otherwise, you are looking so very fab!!

I love the first one, and would suit you well... you can accentuate with skinny belt/ golden one/ other, you can play with it. You can re-use it again in other events over and over without ppl noticing too much (if accesorized well). while the printed one will printed in their mind (if you know what i mean)...

1. 40ish? You go girl. Looking fab-U-lous. 2. Love both dresses on you. 3. Your hair looks so good lately.

I love the Halston dress. I think it really channels Donna Karranesque draping and you dont already have something like it I believe. I think you'll really rock it with some sexy heels and a different belt.
Im not a fan of the DVF. It look to Christmasty to me.
Honestly, im 30 something and if I look as stylish and beautiful as you when Im forty, bring it on!!

Lissy for the first dress I would opt for a skinnier belt - at the moment the emphasis is on the belt and not the lovely draping (I do like the Grecian style of this dress). I'm not such a fan of the second, I don't like dropped waists, I think the shape is just a little weird. I prefer the first silhouette and I look forward to seeing how you style number two if you keep it!

I vote for both. The color and print ont he DVF are out of this world!!! Though I see you getting more wear out of the classic Halston.

Hi there! I am so curious to find out if you kept the DVF Veronica dress (giant link print in orange and blue). I also fell in love with it, but when I saw it on ShopItToMe. Like you, I ain't in my 20's (just turned 40), but unlike you, I don't have great legs. Still, I thought the drop waist, silhouette and print were so fresh and cute. I'm dying to know if you have it, if you lengthened it, etc.! And if so, how you are styling it. (I haven't worn mine yet myself.)

Hi Christina,
Yes I kept the dress and lengthened it. I'll put it on the list to wear soon on the blog but I think with black tights, black booties and a long sleeve T underneath for warmth. Let me know how you end up styling it.
